"Well sort of. Jaeger pointed to a hill in the distance behind the clubhouse. "He'd drive up on Karr's Hill before every game and park on one of those gravel roads. He and Miss Lila would sit there, looking down, listening to Buck Coffey on the radio, too far away to see much, but making sure the town knew he was still watching. Ath the end of every halftime the band would face the hill and play the fight song, and all ten thousand would wave at Rake"(36).
So far this book is okay, but it does not have very much action. It has been about the main character Neely's football past and how he was a great athlete until he got hurt in college. The head coach of the football team is dying and all his players are coming and sitting on bleachers to reliving their past memories. Neely was the best quarterback that played for the head coach and he went to play college for tech. He was a starter his sophomore year until he got hurt from a cheap shot.
I chose this quote because it shows how much the head coach was loved in the town. The coaches name by the way is Rake. He had 13 state titles in 34 years of coaching football. His team had 84 straight wins at one point in his career. He was fired for something but everyone still loved him. This quote also shows how much the town loved the game of football. Ten thousand fans is a lot for high school. I hope this book gets better.
