Octavian Nothing (1st post)

"She laid her head down upon my lap, burying her face in my chest, and I patted her head; and after a time, lying there as she clutched, I felt that I was become her mother, and she my son" (36).

So I am a couple of pages into this book and not going to lie but the long sentences makes it a little hard to follow. I chose this quote just for an example to show how poetic the book is, I love it. I love books that resemble old English, where they talk backwards almost. So far with this book I’m not really sure where the plot is headed, the author definitely has a long drawn out process where he goes through every day in the book with fine details. And there are also a lot of flashbacks in the book. I really like the word choice in this book and that’s kind of what every sentence in the book is like, it looks like the author spent hours fining every single sentence. Not one out of place.

I love books with old victorian language. That style of writing can be hard to read and get through, but if you try skiming some parts and just get a general feel of what it is talking about you can really enjoy the book. The quote you chose is a great example of the poetic nature of that time period and style of writing.
