She's Come Undone (Post 2)

I am posting a little differently this time, because so much has happened!

“ He had on his cutoffs and nothings else. I looked away. 'Man, this heat, huh? You could fry a steak up there on our kitchen linoleum'” (85).

For some reason, I really enjoyed this quote. I don’t know if it was because it has been really hot lately and I could totally understand where he was coming from, or if it was because it was a hyperbole. I like how the author uses metaphors and other literary elements throughout the book, I think it will really expand my reading skills.

“He was on top of me, his knees pressing into my sides, his fingers jumping and jabbing. ' You ticklish here? What about here?'” (89).

When I read this, I couldn’t believe it. I was like… WOW Mr. Speight kind of crossed the line here. I thought that his actions were crossing the line. I think he has a crush on her. I realllly do at this point. Right now, I can’t put the book down because I am so excited to find out what is going to happen next! This book is starting to get really awesome, and I am only in Chapter 6!

“My mind wouldn’t shut off…It must have been something else I had felt up there when he was on me,tickling me. His knee or his elbow or something. He and Rita were married, they were having a little baby together, for pity’s sake. I was just being a pig and an idiot. I was pitiful” (90).

Dolores felt uncomfortable about Mr. Speight tickling her! I knew it! She starts to feel bad about hanging out with him and being close to him because even if she did think about him and touches herself about him, and she starts to feel really bad. I feel bad for her, because she didn’t do anything wrong at all, and he is the one that is doing this to her! AHH!

“The whipped cream was warm and yellowy. From the corner of my eye, I saw Jack watching” (91).

Creepy! (btw Jack=Mr. Speight)! Not only is she being tickled by a young-middle aged man, but now is being constantly watched by him when she is just eating a doughnut! I am really starting to feel that this nice, friendly, cool guy upstairs is actually a creeper and a child molester. I WANT TO KEEP READING!

**before you read the next quote… it’s important to know that Mr. Speight has taken Dolores in the middle of the woods…”

“Could I give you a kiss—just a friendly one?”
“My stomach pulled in; blood pounded in my head. “I don’t think so” (107).

OMG!!! He was drunk. But still this is terrible! He is a child molester! Wanting to kiss a younger girl! This is crazy! He kisses her anyways an d says that it was nicest kiss he has ever had. And tries to kiss her again! She tries to ask where the reservoir is. This is getting really crazy! I can’t believe that this guy is portrayed as a really nice guy and is a creeper! WoW! Later 2 pages later “Now, say it: say ‘F*** me,Jack.’ Tell me to f*** it into you.” Omgsh, he rapes her! And then he threatens her and says that if she tells, that he will kill his wife and him and Dolores knows that means the baby too… and this means she wont tell!

I can not put the book down now, seriously. You need to read this book!

Maxi- well throughout the book dolores changes ages but at that point in time i think she is like 14. She meets Jack by the apartment upstairs is open for rent by Dolores grandma and Jack rents that apartment with his wife. So they meet like that, have friendly dinner one night, etc. He was taking Dolores to school, because she was walking everyday and he said he would take her since it was on the way to his work. And, takes her home for same reason. Dolores grandma and mom leave her alone a few times too so she spends time with Jack when his wife is working nights.
