Ellen is crazy! I finally understand where she is coming from. This girl had been abused by her father, aunts, grandma and the society she lived in. She is a white girl who is the best friend of a black girl. These to were abused by society because it was marked that whites were better than the blacks. Ellen eventually learned that everyone desired the same rights because she loved her best friend for the person she was and not her outside features. Her father and grandma part took in physically abuse as well as verbal. Her aunts didn't want her and her aunt Nadie basically neglected while she was in her house. Ellen finally got to the point were she knew she desired to be happy. Even though her childhood was rough she overcame it. She named her self Ellen Foster because her new family was the "foster family." Her foster mother is name "new mama." Ellen has achieved so much and so many people can learn to survive off of her techniques. The was an excellent book.
