"'Thus, to greatly abbreviate a complicated series of occurrences, there was a very long and very bloody war, which both sides later regretted. At the beginning the elves fought only to defend themselves, for they were reluctant to escalate the fighting, but the dragons' ferocity eventually forced them to attack for their own survival. This lasted for five years and would have continued for much longer if an elf called Eragon hadn't found a dragon egg.' Eragon blinked in surprise. 'Ah, I see you didn't know of your namesake,' said Brom." (50)
This paragraph shows tremendous foreshadowing. Now, having neither read the book already or seen the movie I am not sure of what will happen. But, that said, naming the main character of the story Eragon and having him find a dragon egg then later hearing that the first dragon rider's name was Eragon was a dead giveaway. Plus, both Eragons found the egg mysteriously, connecting the two and their fate even further. So far so good for this mythical dragon tale, and I can't wait to finish it.

Well I hope it's better than the movie. I'd like to read the book. So when you get to that point when you feel it's a "must read", then tell me. Atleast from reading your quote and watching the movie, it feels like they chopped about five-sixths of the story off, filled it with gobbs action, a touch of magic and mythical creatures just to adapt it to the film. By the way, good use of literary elements in your response. I like how you connected those facts.
At first I was skeptical of watching a movie with a magical dragon in it, but my boyfriend read the book and had watched the movie and insisted that it was amazing. I watched it and now realize that it was surprisingly very good. He is now insisting that I read the book as well…
I like this quote because I think that it really describes the whole basis of this novel.
