Shooter (post #2)

“We soon what we found what we had come for, the 51st Mech, and we set about destroying it. Our Abrams tanks opened up with their 120mm main guns on enemy tanks, which returned fire, and the Amtracs and artillery were engaging whatever they could find. The deep-throated anvil chorus of explosions was joined by the stutter of heavy machine guns and the thump of grenades. Cobra helicopters viciously roared in with rockets and guns to attack targets we could not see” (84).

As I read this part of the book I began to think about what war really is. I am torn between right and wrong. I think war is wrong in the sense that it is violent, and many good people die. But I also think that war is necessary to regulate wrong doings. I think they are wrong because wars are just giant, cruel games that risk the lives of thousands of people. They are like mass human fumigations. Both sides in a war basically want to completely destroy the other. It is just like a large scale high school or middle school fight. Just like the kids in middle school and high school, the sides involved need to grow up. But there are exceptions like when some is bullying you; you have to stick up for yourself. If some one like a Hitler is bullying others who are defenseless then you have to help. I understand that you need to use violence to prevent more violence from happening, but I feel sorry for those who are punished by a country’s differences. That is why I think war is necessary if it is for the good of mankind.
