"By the rivers of Babylon, we sat down and wept, when we remembered thee, O Zion. On the willows there, we hung up our harps, for they that carried us away captive required of us, saying, 'Sing us one of the songs of Zion.' How can we sing the songs of the lord in a foreign land?" (66).
This is actually a quote in my book which was quoted from the book of psalms, and I like this quote because so far I have discovered that this book is somewhat about slavery. This quote here is being read from the mother of the slave boy, and she was once the queen of Africa I think it was. They were bought while the boy was still in the mothers womb and so far It’s all an experiment that this one slave holder is doing on this boy and his mother. He has bought the two main characters and lets them live in his house. I’m still not sure what the plot is, I feel it will end with the main boy trying to break free because of some experiment gone wrong, but honestly I don’t really see where the book is going. This is a sophisticated book with not a lot a humor and the sense it appeals to most is curiosity. You read it with a whole different side of the brain; it makes you think and takes you to a whole different world. And when you read it you feel as though you are in that time period, which I want to say is the 1700’s but I’m not really sure, it might be the 1800’s.
